Did you know that the tongue has played an important role in the recent history of music? It has become the signature trademark for at least two famous rock bands!
Over half a century ago, the Rolling Stones debuted in part of what was to become the “British Invasion”. Still rocking stages around the world, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood continue to use the tongue and lips logo that was designed for them in 1971.
In what was perhaps one of the first cases of rock brand marketing, Jagger reportedly approached the Royal College of Art in 1969 looking to commission images for the band. John Pasche, designer and graphic artist, designed the logo and ended up working for the Stones from 1970 to 1974. “Face to face with him, the first thing you were aware of was the size of his lips and his mouth,” Pasche said. The logo is immediately recognized worldwide as the trademark of the Rolling Stones – but what if Pasche had chosen to represent the lips without the tongue? It is the tongue that let’s the world know the Stones are in town!
Imagine, it has been exactly forty, yes forty, years since one of the most famous tongues in musical history was revealed to the world! Kiss and its lead singer, Gene Simmons, debuted in January, 1973 with what was to become immediately recognizable garb and outrageous onstage antics! Simmons, whose iconic tongue is extraordinarily long, is insured for $1 million! Simmons even published a short-lived men’s style magazine called Gene Simmons’ Tongue. Tung Brush even made an appearance in one of the issues!
Two tongues, each with major significance in the promotion of two iconic rock bands. One was a piece of art, one was real. But clearly they were important enough to warrant world-wide recognition and fame. So, think about your own tongue – is it ready for fame and fortune? Could you insure it? Maybe not, but your tongue is important to your own health, well-being and happiness…it can make you or break you. So, remember to use The Original TUNG Brush and Gel on a regular basis…you never can tell what lies ahead, and you will want clean breath and a healthy mouth!
We will be back soon with more on the tongue and The Original TUNG Brush, so stay tuned!
