It may be hard to believe, but summer is winding down and the school year has either already started or is just about to! It is time to get your kids ready, and that usually entails shopping for supplies, new clothes and, above all, working on their attitudes! Getting up early, classes and homework are probably the farthest things from their minds as they relax in the pool, sleep in, or just hang out with their friends and video games for those last precious days of academic freedom!
While you are making plans for the year and are shopping for those back-to-school items, how about thinking about their snacks? Whether you pack their lunches or they have school-prepared meals, most kids will want a snack during the day or when they get home. And a lot of them may want to head straight to the chips and cookies. How about surprising your kids with tasty mixed-up snacks that they will love and that will be healthy too? Here are a few ideas:
- Sesame Sticks: If you mix them up with some dried fruit, such as pineapple, and add in a chopped up fruit and nut or granola bar, your kids will enjoy the sweetness and the crunch while not piling on the sugar.
- Pita Chips: Combine pieces of low-salt pita chips with some soy nuts and a smattering of miniature chocolate chips for a tasty treat.
- Pretzels: What kid doesn’t love pretzel twists? But if you mix them up with some dried cranberries and a few of their favorite nuts, your kids will enjoy the change.
Get the idea? Your imagination is all it takes to provide your kids with finger-ready, mouth-watering, crunchy, sweet snacks that are healthy. And, best of all – they are easy to make, easy to pack and fun to share.
The Tung Brush and Gel team wishes all the kids out there a happy, successful, fun and HEALTHY school year! And to all you parents…you might just want to keep some of those snacks for yourselves! 🙂
