HEALTHY foods, HEALTHY exercise, HEALTHY habits! That is our mission here at TUNG Brush and Gel. We love it when our readers and customers eat their veggies, walk instead of drive, and keep their tongues clean!
But hey, we have to be real, too. A healthy lifestyle includes doesn’t mean punishing yourself, starving yourself, or not enjoying life. All it means is making good choices. And for us, those choices just might include COOKIES! Who doesn’t love cookies? AND, chocolate chip cookies in particular???
In case you missed it on your calendar, August 4 is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! Statistics show that the chocolate chip cookie is the #1 favorite cookie in the United States! And, those same statistics say that Americans eat an average of nearly 19,000 (all kinds included) cookies in their lifetime. So who are we to NOT celebrate this historically important morsel (no pun intended) of yumminess?
While you can run to the store and buy cookies, or, maybe even find a local bakery to let you sample its best chocolate chip wares, it’s also a great time to gather up the ingredients and bake a batch for yourself and your family. There’s nothing like a good, homemade, gooey chocolate chip cookie to put a smile on anyone’s face. Here is the recipe for the most famous chocolate chip cookie of all, the “Original Toll House”:
Original Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (that’s 2 sticks) softened butter
- ¾ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cups packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups Nestles Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
- 1 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
- Pre-heat oven to 375.
- In one bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt – set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract until creamy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients (the flour mixture).
- Stir in the chocolate morsels and nuts.
- Drop the batter by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake in oven for 9 to 11 minutes, or until golden brown (all ovens vary).
- Remove from oven and cool on the baking sheet for about 2 minutes.
- Remove the cookies from the baking sheet, place them on wire racks until cool.
In closing, we need to mention our undying and incredible gratitude to Ruth Graves Wakefield, who created the original Toll House chocolate chip cookie in 1938. Her husband ran the Tool House Inn in Massachusetts, so the cookie eventually became the “Toll House”. The Nestle Company later bought the rights to the name.
Mrs. Wakefield, without your invention, our lives would be just a little less sweet!😊
