Who doesn’t love Halloween? It is every child’s favorite time to dress up as his or her favorite monster or superhero then to head out with friends or family to collect candy.

Did we mention that it’s also the favorite time for many adults to dress up as their favorite monsters or superheroes as well? 😉There are Halloween parties, hayrides, dances, movie screenings and the like.

According to the National Retail Foundation, in 2016 more than 171 million Americans celebrated Halloween, spending an average $82.93, up from last year’s $74.34. Total spending reached a record $8.4 billion, an all-time high!

Lots and Lots of Candy!

Now, while some of that spending is for costumes and decorations, we all know that candy sales are at nearly their annual peak for Halloween, only surpassed by the goodies the Easter Bunny distributes! And while a lot of parents spend the night and next day doling out the bounty their kids have collected so they don’t gorge on everything before they head to bed, we wonder how much of that bounty never gets back to the kiddos, right Mom and Dad? Just look at what happens when parents confess to their kids that they ate their children’s Halloween haul! 😁

But Why Does my Breath Smell Bad?

On a serious note for a moment, one of the problems with anyone, grown-up or child, consuming too much Halloween candy is how bad his or her breath can get. The sugar in candy (most trick-or-treaters don’t come home with sugar-free candy 😊) feeds the bacteria that cause oral odor. These bacterial microbes, which live on the tongue and gums, help to process the food you eat and then emit smelly, sulphur-based compounds as a residual waste product. Not only does the bacteria cause halitosis, but it also leads to tooth decay and gum disease.

Does that mean you shouldn’t enjoy Halloween? Absolutely not! But just remember to brush your teeth to remove residual sugars and clean your tongue with your TUNG Brush and Gel to get rid of the nasty biofilm that will remain from the sugar breakdowns.

Trick or Treat,

Trick or Treat,

A clean tongue will keep breath sweet!

Now go get your costumes and bags ready and go get some candy! Happy Halloween!
